Supporting the College: Invest in the Future

The College seeks to maintain fees at a reasonable level to ensure that training is accessible to all those who wish to study.

However that means that we depend on Churches and individuals to supply approximately one third of our ongoing running costs.
In order to ensure that the College can continue its vital work we ask you to prayerfully consider the response form downloadable from the link below.

All gifts will be acknowledged and you will receive a short monthly ‘Friends of the College’ update on our work.

Will you stand with us and invest in the future?

A new chapter - IBC student inducted at Portadown

Friday, 3 June saw a new chapter begin in the life of Portadown Baptist Church - John Kimber was inducted as assistant pastor. During the course of his studies at the Irish Baptist College John, along with his wife Grace (and, now, baby Jessica), served the Lord at Portadown. This special induction service officially marked the beginning of John’s full-time position in the church.

Raymond Pollock, one of the church elders, welcomed many visitors, including members of both John and Grace’s families. Carl Sands, another church elder, reported on the history of the call. He recalled the events of 2008 when John and Grace were introduced to the fellowship - John was considering a three-year course at the Irish Baptist College with the view to becoming a pastor. A few weeks later he applied to the college and was accepted. At the same time the Lord was at work with regard to Grace’s employment and she secured work as a dentist in nearby Richhill.

In September 2008 the fellowship were notified that John was to become Student Assistant and on 14 September John and Grace became members of the church. Almost two years later (March 2010) the members called John to the position of assistant pastor.

Following the history of the call, Pastor Clifford Morrison, former pastor of the church performed the act of setting John apart for ministry. Stephen Archer, also an elder in the church, performed the Act of Induction. John was asked to confirm that he felt called into ministry; to confirm his commitment to prayer and the reading of the Scriptures, and to accept the responsibility of caring for the people in Portadown Baptist Church. The members of the church were then asked to confirm their support for John. Gifts were presented to John and Grace by church elder, Paul Wright and his wife, Ruth.

John responded and took time to thank everyone involved in the service. He thanked his wife and parents (Pastor and Mrs Paul Kimber), Pastor and Mrs Morrison, Pastor Edwin Ewart, the church elders, secretary, praise team and the church as a whole.

John’s father, Pastor Paul Kimber, brought greetings from Drift Road Evangelical Church in Portsmouth where John grew up, was saved and was baptised. His father-in-law, David Whitmarsh then read from 1 Timothy  4:9-16.

Pastor Edwin Ewart, Principal of the Irish Baptist College, shared from God’s word. He spoke about the importance of being ‘God’s man’ through good teaching and a good life, leaving a great challenge not just for John but for all of us as a church.

The evening finished with a time of fellowship and supper.

As a church, we at Portadown Baptist look forward to what God has planned for us over the coming years through our newly-appointed assistant pastor.
